About Mount Stromlo, ACT
Mount Stromlo is situated near the Weston Creek district of Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory. Standing at about 770 metres above sea level, its summit houses the Mount Stromlo Observatory, which is part of the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Australian National University (ANU). The area has popular cycling trails and offers scenic views for both locals and visitors.
In 2003, a large bushfire caused major damage to the observatory, destroying buildings and telescopes. However, the site was rebuilt and modernised, allowing important research to continue. Today, Mount Stromlo is not only home to vital scientific studies but also serves as a recreational spot for those who enjoy walking, running, and mountain biking.
